Reflections on Solitude
Alone with the endless sea, I discovered that solitude is not emptiness but a different kind of fullness.
Three months by myself in a cottage by the sea taught me that loneliness and solitude are entirely different countries. Loneliness is wanting company and not having it. Solitude is choosing your own company and finding it sufficient.
The first week was the hardest. Without the constant noise of other people's needs, opinions, and presence, I was left with only my own thoughts—and I realized how little time I usually spent with them.
